Party Poker, known as the largest poker site on the Internet, will be joining forces with Elle, the international women’s magazine, as sponsors of a an upcoming World Series of Poker Ladies Event women’s charity team. The event will begin July 9th.
The control purpose of this women’s poker team will be to increase public awareness of heart disease, which come to be known as the main killer of today’s women. Each of the team’s members has decided that she will give a percentage of her potential winnings to AHA. This gift will be matched by the event’s sponsors with an equal matching gift of up to $5,000 for each of the participating players.
The team’s captain will be Jennifer Tilly, the Hollywood actress. The team will compete using the name “Queens of Heart”. Tilly is also an World Series of Poker bracelet winner having won in the 2005 tournament. The team will be playing for the benefit of the American Heart Association’s campaign, Go Red for Women.
Several leading celebrities and pro women poker players are forming the remainder of the team, and these include poker professionals Anne Spinetti, Linda Johnson, Lisa Tenner, actress Shannon Elizabeth, Jan Fisher, Kristy Gazes, Alison Worth, Karina Jett, documentary director Susan Genard, Leslie Eichner Maureen Feduniak, “King Of Vegas” star Katie Porrello, Wendeen Eolis, Jennifer “Jennicide” Leigh, Irina Cornides and Lori Sale, and Hillary Kerr.
Tilly says that she is delighted to participate in an event dedicated to making people aware of an ailment that affects so many women worldwide. She says that her participation on the ‘Queens of Heart’ team will mean a lot to her since she knows that it will mean that she is supporting the Go Red for Women movement of the American Heart Association.
